About
AutoCAD Architecture is the architectural toolset bundled inside AutoCAD (not a separate SKU since the 2025 release — toolsets are now included in the AutoCAD subscription). It adds architecture-specific objects (walls, doors, windows with embedded behavior) and automated documentation features on top of base AutoCAD. Increasingly considered legacy as Autodesk pushes architects toward Revit, but still used by firms with deep .dwg-based workflows.
How teams use it
By audience
- Architecture
- Architects in firms with long-running .dwg-based workflows use the architecture toolset for parametric walls, doors, and windows with built-in behavior (cleanups, schedules, code-compliant tags).
- Useful for renovation/legacy projects where the original drawings are AutoCAD-based and Revit migration is impractical.
- Increasingly displaced by Revit for new commercial projects, but persists in residential and small-firm contexts.
- Interior Design
- Interior teams use it for tenant-fit-out drawings where the base building is delivered as AutoCAD shells.
- Compatible with established AutoCAD library workflows that interior designers may have decades of investment in.
By phase
- Design
- Used through SD/DD/CD when the project is committed to a 2D AutoCAD-based deliverable.
- Output is .dwg construction documents — readable by every contractor and consultant in the chain.
